SOCIAL WORKER
My name is Pearl Nyamende, I am a qualified social worker, registered with the South African Council For Social Service Professions. I am currently employed as a social worker at Women and Men Against Child Abuse working at the Alexandra Kidz Clinic. I joined the team in 2010 as a social auxiliary worker. I realised my passion and love for the profession of Social Work and working with children I have decided to further my studies as a social worker through UNISA.
I completed my Honors degree in social work in 2016. My role at the organisation is to offer therapy, assessment and life skills to children. I also work with parents by offering life skills programs and facilitating family preservation in order to help families build healthy and fulfilling relationships within the family unit.
I also do outreach to raise child safety and protection awareness in the Alexandra community and schools.
Lastly, I educate educators on how to handle disclosures by children who have been abused that are made by learners at school. Witnessing the rate of abuse among children in our community motivated me to become a social worker. As an asset to my organisation and by extension to my community I make a difference by fighting for the rights of children and fighting for the end of child abuse in our society.
